2019 Iowa All American Miniature Horse Club Show

We had a fun Saturday morning attending the annual All American Miniature Horse Club show at Kirkwood Equestrian Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Our friend Melinda Selk, co-owner of Maple Hollow Farms, was showing several of her horses with her mother, Beverly Jackson, also co-owner, and her daughter, Maya. Melinda and Beverly raise show quality miniature horses at their two locations in Vinton and Dysart, Iowa. Their horses are well known in the AMHR world and with breeders all across the nation.
This was a great experience for us! We got to learn from Melinda what it takes to prepare for a show and see all the different ways minis are trained to show. We also learned these shows are very long! We were only able to stay for Saturday morning, but showing the various genders, ages and disciplines spans two full days. We were very impressed with the competitors and horses, as well as the professionalism and coordination of the All American Miniature Horse Club. It was also a great opportunity for Mya to help Melinda a little in preparing her horses for show. Her second favorite part of the day was getting to “babysit” little Maya. Both girls thought it was neat they have the same name!
Thank you, Melinda and Beverly, for your hospitality and the opportunity to document your show experience. We look forward to visiting your farm again and sharing more of your beautiful horses!
Maple Hollow Farm has been raising horses for over 20 years and have had both full size and miniatures. They have a nice herd of show quality miniature horses and offer many for sale. They welcome visitors by appointment and love to introduce new people into this great breed. Feel free to email or call with any questions about the breed or their horses.
